Japan-based Renova Inc. announced on July 21 that operations at its 74.8-megawatt Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant have been temporarily suspended for repair work, with the facility expected to resume operations later this month.
The biomass power plant, located in Tokushima City, Japan, began operations in 2023 and is fueled by wood pellets and palm kernel shells. Renova said operations were suspended on July 8 after abnormal pressure occurred in the plant’s high-pressure turbine equipment during operation.
A subsequent inspection confirmed damage to the steam control valve connected to the high-pressure turbine. Renova said it has decided to proceed with parts repair and expects the plant to restart soon.
The Tokushima Tsuda facility previously experienced operational problems in 2024. Later that year, Renova shut down the plant for several months to install permanent improvements aimed at supporting long-term stable operations. The facility resumed operations in late 2024 after the work was completed.
The Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant is one of several biomass power facilities developed by Renova. The company’s other biomass assets include the 20.5 MW Akita Biomass facility, the 75 MW Kanda Biomass plant, the 75 MW Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant, the 75 MW Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass plant, the 75 MW Omaezakikou Biomass plant and the 49.9 MW Karatsu Biomass facility.
