28 Apr 2026

Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation expects to launch the physical startup of the No. 1 unit at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh in the coming days, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev told the Strana Rosatom corporate publication.

"We expect to launch the physical startup of the first power unit at the Rooppur NPP in the coming days," Likhachev said.

As reported last week, Rosatom specialists conducted the final readiness check of the No. 1 unit at the Rooppur NPP, and the state corporation has received its operating license.

The power unit is expected to reach minimum controllable power in 2026, followed by the power start-up phase, which should include the supply of electricity to the Bangladesh grid.

Likhachev in February 2026 said that the company was approaching the start-up phase at the Rooppur NPP, with the first power unit scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026. The Bangladesh NPP will comprise two power units with combined capacity of 2400 MW.
