​Greenfield Global, Hy2Gen to Set up 29-MW Green hydrogen Plant in Quebec

Canadian ethanol producer Greenfield Global Inc and Hy2gen Canada on Wednesday announced plans for a 50/50 joint venture to build a 29-MW green hydrogen production facility in Quebec.

The plant, to be located in Varennes adjacent to Greenfield's biorefinery in the area, could be expanded to up to 80 MW in 2024, depending on demand, the companies said.
 
In addition to green hydrogen, the facility will also produce biomethane and biomethanol. It will use the green carbon dioxide from the biorefinery to be in accordance with the zero carbon footprint and zero greenhouse gas standard.
 
"The demand for green hydrogen is increasing vertiginously, however, the commercial market is still at an embryonic stage. Our green hydrogen and hydrogen-based production at competitive price and our networks will allow us to reach across different sector, including the hard-to-abate ones," said Hy2gen CEO Cyril Dufau-Sansot.
