Nvidia is joining forces with Emerald AI and a consortium of major power companies to address one of the most pressing challenges in the AI sector: ensuring sufficient power supply to meet its rapid growth.
The partnership involves AES, Constellation, Invenergy, NextEra Energy, and Vistra, with a focus on constructing a new type of "AI factory" that directly connects to the power grid. These facilities will be powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin DSX design and DSX Flex software, enabling them to integrate with grid services more swiftly while also functioning as flexible energy assets. In essence, these are not merely data centers; they are engineered to both consume and bolster electricity systems.
To expedite the process, the companies intend to utilize on-site power generation and storage as a temporary solution, allowing AI capacity to come online more rapidly. Over time, these same assets can return power to the grid when required. Emerald AI's Conductor platform will orchestrate these operations, balancing computational demand with battery storage and local power generation.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the objective is to make AI performance and energy efficiency accessible "immediately."
