Petrobras and Ecopetrol have discovered natural gas in the Copoazu exploration area of the deepwater block GUA-OFF-O in the Caribbean Sea, located 36 kilometers offshore Colombia.
The Copoazu-1 well is located at a water depth of 964 meters, 8 kilometers away from the Sirius-1 gas discovery well and Sirius-2 appraisal well of the same block owned by the partnership.
The drilling work for the Copoazu-1 well commenced in November of last year and is still ongoing. Electrical logging and fluid sampling results indicate the discovery of gas-bearing intervals downhole, and natural gas has also been detected in another target area beyond the primary one.
Next, laboratory analysis will be conducted to better identify the gas-bearing areas.
Petrobras International Braspetro BV – Colombia Branch (PIB-COL) operates the GUA-OFF- block, holding a 44.44% interest, while the remaining 55.56% interest is held by Ecopetrol.
