The Federal Electricity Commission of Mexico has awarded Wasion Mexico a smart meter tender contract valued at more than $33m (623.13 pesos).
In Mexico, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the country’s primary electric power provider serving approximately 50 million customers, awarded Wasion Mexico a smart meter contract valued at over 623.13 million pesos. Additionally, in March 2025, Wasion Mexico signed a supply agreement with CFE worth more than 1.45 billion pesos. The combined value of Wasion’s smart meter contracts with CFE now exceeds 2.08 billion pesos, reinforcing its position in Mexico’s energy sector.
In Tanzania, Wasion’s subsidiary secured a smart meter tender from the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), the state-owned power provider serving around 15 million customers. The contract, valued at approximately 61 million Tanzanian shillings, marks a key step in Wasion’s expansion in East Africa.
Wasion Holdings Chairman Ji Wei stated: “We are honoured that Wasion Mexico has been recognised as both a trusted supplier to CFE and a leading brand in Mexico’s power meter industry. Meanwhile, Tanzania will continue to serve as the Group’s business hub in East Africa, from which the Group plans to further expand its presence into Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique and other neighbouring countries.”
Wasion aims to maintain steady orders for power meters in Africa while exploring new opportunities, including energy storage projects. The company’s strategic focus includes expanding its footprint across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States, where its products already hold a significant market share.
Wasion’s portfolio includes advanced metering infrastructure for power, water, gas, and heat, as well as energy efficiency solutions and smart distribution devices. These offerings cater to a diverse range of clients, including power grid companies, utility providers, and major industrial and commercial users worldwide.
The contracts in Mexico and Tanzania demonstrate Wasion’s ability to deliver innovative energy solutions tailored to regional needs. By strengthening partnerships with state-owned utilities like CFE and Tanesco, Wasion is well-positioned to support global energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The company’s ongoing efforts in East Africa and beyond aim to drive growth in smart metering and related technologies, contributing to modernized energy infrastructure.
