27 Nov 2023  by energynews
Tamil Nadu has ambitious plans for a dedicated green hydrogen hub. Industries Minister TRB Rajaa announced this groundbreaking initiative at the India EV Conclave, themed ‘Electrifying Tomorrow: Navigating the EV Transition.’

Rajaa highlighted that a remarkable 50% of the installed energy capacity in the state is already green, and the government aims to elevate this figure to an impressive 75%. The state’s commitment to environmental sustainability was recently lauded on the global stage, receiving the ‘UN Promotion Award 2023 for Excellence in Scaling Up Energy Transition Investments at the World Investment Forum in the UAE.

“We are in the process of developing a green hydrogen hub. If we also have a robust electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the transition from fossil-fuel dependency to green energy sources and renewables will benefit all,” stated Minister Rajaa, underscoring the holistic approach Tamil Nadu is adopting.

The minister emphasized the significant contributions of key players in the electric vehicle sector, including Ola, TVS Motor, Ather, Ampere Vehicles, BYD India, Stellantis, and E-Royce Motors, which collectively contribute to the large-scale production of electric vehicles in Tamil Nadu.

“Our state, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, is policy-driven and has a clear vision of inclusive, sustainable growth. Tamil Nadu is among the few states with a future-ready EV policy,” Rajaa added, signifying the state’s proactive stance in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.
