Samsung C&T announced on the 25th that it has completed a green hydrogen, hydrogen produced using renewable energy with no carbon emissions, production facility linked to solar power generation in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province. The facility produces green hydrogen by electrolyzing water using energy generated from an 8.3 MW solar power plant. It is the first in South Korea to apply an off-grid method that produces hydrogen using only renewable energy without relying on external power grids. The daily production capacity is 0.6 tons, tons, and it can produce over 230 tons, tons, of green hydrogen annually. The produced hydrogen is planned to be supplied to hydrogen vehicle charging stations in the region.
In this project, Samsung C&T was responsible for the entire design, procurement, and construction (EPC) of hydrogen production and storage facilities, including solar power generation facilities and water electrolysis facilities. The company plans to enhance its global competitiveness through stable facility operation and technological advancement. A Samsung C&T official stated, "This is significant in that it presents a green hydrogen production model based on renewable energy," and added, "It will serve as a foundation for entering overseas green hydrogen projects in the future."
