The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates has announced that the federal law, regulating the link of distributed renewable energy production units to the electrical grid has been approved.

The law is in line with UAE’s plan to diversify renewable energy sources and utilise natural resources whilst ensuring carbon emissions are reduced.

According to the Ministry, the new law seeks to reduce carbon footprint, cutting down the demand for electricity at peak times from distribution networks.

The measure also provided clear foundations in line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative and the National Energy Strategy 2050.

“This strategy aims to boost the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix produced in the country to 50% by 2050,” Suhail Bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said.
