The turbine manufacturer Vestas has confirmed its very first order for its V162-6.0MW turbine for Finland.
In October, Vestas announced it would offer its turbines from its eventus platform at a standard rating of 6MW after successful pilot trials in Denmark.
The V162-6.0MW turbine has the largest rotor diameter of any onshore wind turbine in the company’s portfolio, a tip height of up to 250 metres and a rotor-swept area of more than 20,000m2.
Announced today, the Finnish developer Ilmatar Energy has placed an order with Vestas for eight V162-6.0MW turbines in combination with 129m towers for its 48MW Rasakangas project.
It has also ordered six V150-4.2 MW turbines from Vestas’ 4MW platform optimisedto run at 4.3MW with 135 metre towers as part of its 26MW Voimamylly wind farm
Vestas will supply, install and commission the turbines, before servicing them for 30 years.
Deliveries for both projects are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2021 while commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2022.
In Finland, Vestas has installed roughly 400 wind turbines with a total capacity of almost 1.3GW, and has an additional 1GW currently under construction.
