Spanish utility-scale solar plants developer Powertis has unveiled plans to develop a portfolio of 500MW solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Italy.

Powertis to develop a portfolio of solar photovoltaic projects in Italy.

The company noted that it will be developing its solar PV power projects in Basilicata, Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia and Lazio regions.

It noted that the development of new projects is in line with the company’s expansion strategy.

Powertis Italy country manager Roberto Capuozzo said: “Italy is a great strategic opportunity for the company in terms of growth and international development, being this one of the markets with the greatest potential in Europe for the photovoltaic sector.

“We are confident that Powertis will be one of the leading companies in the transition to a zero-emission economy.”

Additionally, the company has plans to achieve its goal of 1GW of ready-to-invest assets by 2023.

The National Integrated Climate and Energy Plan (PNIEC) seeks to reach a target of more than 30GW of solar PV capacity by 2030.

Powertis will focus on establishing its presence in the Italian market by developing more projects across various regions in the country.

The Spanish firm noted that its expansion plans will help increase its pipeline beyond over 2GW between Italy and Brazil.

Last September, Powertis announced an investment for the development, structuring, financing, construction and operation of large-scale solar PV projects.

The company said that it will be developing a 765MW photovoltaic solar portfolio in the states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, in Brazil.
