GE Renewable Energy to supply turbines for Phuong Mai 1 wind power project in Vietnam.

GE Renewable Energy has secured a turbine supply contract in Vietnam from Phuong Mai Wind Power Joint Stock Company (JSC) for its first wind project in the country.

Located Binh Dinh province, the Phuong Mai 1 wind power project is expected to become operational by the first half of 2021.

As per the terms of the agreement, GE will supply 11 of its 2.4MW-116 turbines as well as provide technical advisory service for the Phuong Mai 1 wind farm.

GE Renewable Energy South Asia and ASEAN onshore wind business regional leader Gilan Sabatier said: “GE has always been an important player in helping Vietnam meet its energy needs. The Phuong Mai 1 project illustrates our ongoing commitment to bringing customized solutions to our customers and meeting their specific project requirements.

“We are thrilled to be able to contribute to Vietnam’s energy transition and to continue supporting the local communities in doing so.”

Phuong Mai Wind Power JSC is a special purpose vehicle company formed with investments from Truong Thanh Development and Construction Investment JSC (DECONNIN JSC) and Hanoi Construction – Industrial Investment JSC (HANOINCO JSC).

To develop the right solution for the wind project, GE worked actively with various stakeholders such as civil and electrical consultants and the client’s in-house construction teams.

Deconnin JSC deputy director Nguyen Duy Hung said: “We are excited to form the first partnership with a competent and reliable player in the industry like GE.

“We appreciate GE’s immediate response and commitment to this project. The contract is a result of just three months of contract discussion. We expect the project will come into operation earlier than scheduled.”

GE currently operates 128 MW in Vietnam.

Last month, GE Renewable Energy was awarded a wind turbine supply contract by utility company Sanko Enerji for a wind farm in Turkey.

As per the terms of the contract, GE agreed to deliver 12 Cypress units as well as two units of 3MW for the 70MW Guney wind farm.
