Tidal Power Operations See Minimal Disruption from Coronavirus Pandemic

14 Apr 2020  by Philip Whiterow

SIMEC Atlantis Energy Limited (LON:SAE) said there has been little disruption to its tidal power business due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the group noted that electricity is continuing to be supplied from the MeyGen project in Scotland to the grid and SIMEC Atlantis expects to maintain services there and in Japan over the remainder of the year.

Green Highland Renewables’ 45 maintenance contracts are also unaffected, though three hydro projects under construction have been temporarily shut down, the group added.

Some aspects of the Uskmouth power station conversion project have been delayed, it continued, but the combustion system design contract awarded to Mitsubishi Hitachi is ongoing and is on-schedule to be completed this summer, SIMEC Atlantis said.

The application for the conversion's permit variation for the new fuel was submitted to Natural Resource Wales in December 2019 and is now open for public consultation.

To preserve cash, the group's chairman and non-executive directors have taken a 20% cut in fees with the CEO and executive team to take a 20% salary deferral.
