Fermi taps Primoris for Texas power plant construction

01 Jul 2026

Fermi announced on June 30 it selected Primoris Services Corporation to engineer and construct balance of plant infrastructure for six SGT-800 gas turbines at its Project Matador facility in Amarillo, Texas.

The agreement covers engineering, procurement and construction for the simple cycle phase of a Siemens 6x1 combined cycle generating facility adjacent to Fermi’s hyperscale computing and data center campus.

Primoris previously mobilized to the site and completed excavation for all six gas turbine power islands and took delivery of balance of plant material for underground utility installation.

The balance of plant scope includes systems, structures and infrastructure surrounding the gas turbine power islands, from underground utilities and equipment foundations to connections integrating the generating units. The companies plan to advance toward a final engineering, procurement and construction agreement for the simple cycle phase.

Fermi develops private electric grids for AI computing infrastructure. The Project Matador campus is designed to integrate natural gas, nuclear power, utility grid power, solar and battery storage.
