Keppel Ltd has commenced commercial operations at its Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant, a 600-megawatt (MW) hydrogen-compatible combined cycle gas turbine facility in Singapore.
The plant is Singapore’s first hydrogen-compatible combined cycle power facility, according to Keppel.
It is designed to co-combust up to 30% hydrogen with natural gas at start-up. The plant can also be modified to operate on higher hydrogen blends, including full hydrogen, as supply infrastructure develops.
Keppel said the facility increases its total power generation capacity in Singapore by about 45%.
Together with the Keppel Merlimau Cogen Plant, total installed capacity reaches up to 1,900MW, along with up to 200MW of imported low-carbon electricity through regional interconnections.
The Sakra Cogen Plant is 70% owned by Keppel Asia Infrastructure Fund and 30% owned by Keppel and is fully contracted for 2026 and 2027.
Keppel Infrastructure Division chief executive Cindy Lim said the facility is capable of supporting Singapore’s energy transition whilst maintaining grid reliability.
