March 20th - Hyundai Motor Company announced on Friday that it has provided eight Xcient hydrogen fuel cell trucks to an environmental logistics project in Uruguay, which is scheduled to commence operations later this year.

The South Korean automaker stated in a press release that this deployment is part of the Cachiro Project, a local initiative aimed at decarbonizing timber logistics, marking the first full-scale deployment of a commercial fleet of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in South America.
The project has secured a $40 million investment from Santander Bank in Spain, along with support from other global financial institutions.
"We are committed to advancing sustainable transportation solutions," said Elton Cuso, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company in Brazil and Central and South America. "The Xcient hydrogen fuel cell trucks we have deployed in the Cachiro project achieve zero tailpipe emissions, providing a low-carbon alternative to traditional freight transportation.". ”
Xcient is a 37.2-ton tractor equipped with a 180-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell system, capable of traveling 720 kilometers on a single charge.
Hyundai Motor has been expanding its global hydrogen ecosystem through large-scale deployments in major markets such as North America and Europe.
As of January, 165 Xcient trucks in Europe have traveled a cumulative distance of 20 million kilometers, while 63 Xcient trucks in North America have traveled a cumulative distance of 1.6 million kilometers during the same period.
Hyundai Motor Group stated that it will continue to provide end-to-end solutions across the hydrogen energy value chain through its hydrogen brand and business platform, HTWO, and leverage its capabilities to support collaborations, partnerships, and investments.
