Cleanup and investigation work at the energy storage station began only after the battery temperature had decreased.
It is understood that this energy storage project is primarily used to provide backup power to the grid during peak electricity demand periods or emergencies. At the time of the fire, the energy storage system was fully charged; subsequently, for safety measures, the charge level was reduced to 50%. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, but it may have been triggered by water ingress, with severe weather prior to the incident being the main contributing factor.
Currently, the energy storage station has been disconnected from the grid, and waterproof tarps have been placed. The damaged batteries will be removed to facilitate a comprehensive investigation report. The Warwick government will further conduct tests on the surface, soil, and water quality.
