Poland’s Gas Storage Hits 100%, Highest in EU, Minister Says

Poland's gas storage facilities have reached full capacity, with Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka announcing on Wednesday that they are now 100% full. In a post on X, Motyka highlighted this achievement, stating: "Gas storage in Poland is 100% full! This is the highest level of storage capacity among all EU countries. It is also a guarantee of energy security and real protection against crises."

Gas installation is pictured at the Cavern Underground Gas Storage (CUGS) Kosakowo facility, near Debogorze, Poland April, 30. 2022.

This milestone underscores Poland's ongoing efforts to enhance energy security and independence, especially within the European Union. The country has been actively pursuing policies aimed at reducing reliance on foreign energy sources. Last week, Motyka called on EU energy ministers to accelerate efforts to phase out imports of Russian crude oil, proposing that the EU should aim to end these imports by the end of 2026, a year ahead of the current EU target.

Poland’s commitment to energy security is also reflected in its strategy to diversify energy sources and build resilience against potential disruptions. The country's full gas storage facilities serve as a key safeguard against energy shortages and are seen as a critical step in ensuring long-term energy stability.
