On August 23, Shenzhen-based BASiC Semiconductor signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Automotive Chip (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. (CASTC) to advance automotive-grade semiconductor technology. The partnership, formalized in Shenzhen, focuses on enhancing the development and application of power semiconductors for the automotive industry.

The collaboration leverages BASiC Semiconductor’s expertise in silicon carbide (SiC) power device research and commercialization. Meanwhile, CASTC contributes its capabilities in functional safety, information security, reliability certification, and national standards development. According to BASiC Semiconductor’s WeChat post, the agreement aims to address technical challenges in power and driver chips through a collaborative approach, combining the strengths of both companies to drive innovation.

The partnership will focus on developing safety and reliability testing technologies for automotive chips. BASiC Semiconductor and CASTC plan to establish a comprehensive service system that spans research, testing, certification, and application. This system will create a resource-sharing framework to enhance the performance of domestically developed automotive chips, supporting their broader adoption in the industry.

BASiC Semiconductor is a leading innovator in China’s third-generation semiconductor sector, specializing in SiC power devices. The company manages the entire SiC value chain, including chip design, wafer production, packaging, testing, and driver applications. Its product lineup, which includes SiC diodes, MOSFET chips, and automotive- and industrial-grade modules, serves global clients in electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, rail transit, industrial control, and smart grids.

CASTC, established by the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) and China Reform Holdings’s China Reform Development Investment Co., Ltd., operates as a public platform for testing and verifying automotive-grade chip standards. It focuses on functional safety, information security, reliability, performance, and system-level validation. CASTC plays a vital role in developing standards, conducting certification trials, and fostering an ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of automotive chips in China.

This collaboration strengthens the domestic automotive semiconductor industry by combining BASiC Semiconductor’s SiC expertise with CASTC’s testing and standardization capabilities. The partnership aims to deliver high-performance, reliable chips that meet global standards, supporting the growth of China’s electric vehicle and clean energy sectors. By addressing technical bottlenecks and promoting resource sharing, the agreement contributes to the advancement of sustainable automotive technologies.
