ZTT Submarine Cable & System, a Chinese company, has started construction on an advanced, fully electric cable-laying vessel (CLV) to support offshore wind projects, island interconnections, and regional grid expansion across the Asia Pacific. The vessel is designed to enhance sustainable energy infrastructure development.

Measuring 139.8 meters in length with a 38-meter beam, the next-generation CLV features electric propulsion, DP2 dynamic positioning systems, a helicopter platform, large coaxial turntables, and dual-launch channels. With a 16,000-ton cable capacity and the ability to install over 1,000 kilometers of cable annually, the vessel is equipped for unlimited navigation in challenging marine environments. It supports simultaneous dual-cable laying, deepwater single-hook operations, and cross-border project execution.

A ZTT spokesperson stated: “This milestone underscores our dedication to partnering with global installation specialists. By working in tandem, we enhance regional project delivery, advance shared energy transition goals, and drive sustainable progress in offshore development worldwide.” The vessel’s advanced capabilities aim to improve efficiency and reliability in offshore energy projects, contributing to global clean energy objectives.

In addition to this development, ZTT Submarine Cable & System recently secured a contract to supply 500 kV submarine cables for Shenzhen Energy’s 500 MW Honghai Bay VI offshore wind project in China, announced just days before the vessel’s construction launch. This contract highlights ZTT’s growing role in supporting renewable energy initiatives in the region.

The new CLV is expected to strengthen ZTT’s capacity to deliver large-scale offshore wind and grid interconnection projects, fostering sustainable energy solutions across the Asia Pacific. By integrating advanced technology and collaborating with international partners, ZTT aims to support the region’s energy transition while enhancing project execution efficiency.
