Vodafonethree to Deliver 5G Infrastructure for Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station

18 Jul 2025  by capacitymedia
VodafoneThree has signed an agreement to act as a tier one contractor for Sizewell C, a 3.2GW nuclear power station under construction on the Suffolk coast. The project will generate about 7% of the UK’s electricity, powering six million homes for over 60 years and cutting CO₂ emissions by nine million tonnes each year.

VodafoneThree will lead the deployment of essential digital infrastructure. In the first phase, it will install two 5G masts to ensure mobile coverage for the construction site and surrounding communities. High-speed fibre connectivity will also be provided to enable Wifi access across the project.

Suffolk-based Fern Communications, a VodafoneThree partner, will deliver seamless radio coverage to eliminate connectivity gaps, enhancing worker safety and coordination. Damian Leydon, Sizewell C Site delivery director, stated: “Connectivity is vital for this project. High-quality, reliable connection helps us to operate at the highest standards of safety and efficiency. So, it’s an important step to be working with VodafoneThree and Fern Communications to provide what we need on site. And it has the added benefit of providing 5G for the local area too.”

Nick Gliddon, business director at VodafoneThree, said: “We are delighted to be the connectivity partner for Sizewell C. Alongside our contractors, we will deliver robust, secure, and resilient communications infrastructure that is essential to the success of one of the UK’s most significant energy projects.”

The infrastructure will boost on-site efficiency and improve digital access for local residents and businesses. Sizewell C has awarded over £4bn in contracts, including £330m to 41 Suffolk-based suppliers, supporting regional economic growth.
