Designed by Sweden-based FKAB, the tankers will measure 184.9 meters in length and feature 30 duplex stainless steel cargo tanks. They will be classed by Lloyd’s Register and registered under the Liberian flag. The vessels are engineered for optimal fuel efficiency, incorporating modern engine designs, hull optimization, energy-saving technologies, and shore power connectivity. Additionally, the ships are designed to allow future conversions for battery or methanol propulsion, enhancing their sustainability.
Stolt Tankers, in its 2023 announcement, stated: “The right time to invest in newbuildings,” highlighting the strategic timing of the order to meet growing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly vessels. The tankers are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028, supporting Stolt Tankers’ commitment to modernizing its fleet.
In a related development, NYK Stolt Tankers (NST), a joint venture between NYK Line and Stolt Tankers, ordered six similar 38,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers from Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in China last year. These vessels are designed as sister ships to those under construction at Wuhu Shipyard, reflecting a coordinated effort to expand capacity with consistent, high-quality designs.
