Enstor Gets Green Light for Mississippi Hub Expansion Project

14 Jul 2025  by rigzone
Emerald Storage Holdings LLC, the parent company of Enstor Gas LLC and Mississippi Hub LLC, has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to proceed with construction of the Mississippi Hub Expansion project. The facility, located on the Bond Salt Dome in Simpson County, Mississippi, is a high-deliverability underground natural gas storage site.

The expansion project includes three additional storage caverns, each with approximately 10 Bcf of working storage capacity.

The expansion project will add three new storage caverns, each with approximately 10 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working storage capacity, and enhance the capacity of existing caverns. Upon completion, the project will increase the Mississippi Hub’s total working gas storage capacity to 56.3 Bcf, about 2.5 times its current capacity. The expansion will also boost injection capabilities by up to 0.7 million dekatherms per day (MMDth/day), bringing the total injection capacity to 1.90 MMDth/day, while maintaining the withdrawal capacity at 2.40 MMDth/day.

Enstor plans to begin construction immediately, with the expanded facility expected to be operational by 2028. FERC granted approval for the project in March, enabling Enstor to finalize its investment decision. The first of the three new storage caverns has been fully contracted under a long-term agreement with a Kinder Morgan Inc. subsidiary, supporting storage services for the Southern Natural Gas and Tennessee Gas Pipeline systems.

The Mississippi Hub Expansion project enhances the region’s energy infrastructure by providing greater storage capacity and flexibility to meet natural gas demand. The increased capacity will support reliable energy delivery, accommodating fluctuations in consumption while maintaining operational efficiency. The project’s design prioritizes high-deliverability storage, ensuring the facility can respond effectively to market needs.

This initiative reflects Enstor’s commitment to strengthening energy infrastructure in Simpson County, Mississippi. By expanding the Mississippi Hub, the company aims to meet growing regional energy demands while supporting long-term partnerships with industry leaders like Kinder Morgan. The project’s completion by 2028 will significantly enhance the facility’s role in ensuring a stable and efficient natural gas supply for the region.
