Tesla Launches First V4 Superchargers in China, Open to Non-Tesla EVs

On June 30, Tesla announced the deployment of its first V4 Supercharger stations in China, now operational in highway service areas across Shanghai, Gansu, Zhejiang, Chongqing, and other regions. These advanced charging stations are designed to support both Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles, expanding access to high-speed charging.

The V4 Superchargers, first teased for China in January, offer significant upgrades over the V3 models. With a peak charging capacity of up to 500 kW for passenger electric vehicles and 1.2 MW for Tesla’s commercial Semi trucks, the V4 units double the 250 kW output of the V3 chargers. They feature six layers of safety protection, including water and rain resistance, ensuring reliable performance.

To enhance accessibility, V4 Superchargers include physical payment terminals and longer cables with CCS connectors, allowing non-Tesla EV drivers to charge without adapters. “This rollout marks a significant step in making our charging infrastructure more inclusive and efficient,” a Tesla spokesperson noted.

The V4 cabinets are engineered for scalability and efficiency, powering up to eight charging stalls per unit while occupying a smaller footprint than previous models. With triple the power density and lower costs, these cabinets streamline deployment and enhance reliability, supporting faster expansion of Tesla’s charging network.

As of June 2025, Tesla’s global Supercharger network exceeds 70,000 stalls. In mainland China, the company operates over 2,100 supercharging stations with more than 11,600 Superchargers, alongside 2,500 destination chargers. This network spans every provincial capital and major municipality, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Tesla plans to deploy additional V4 Superchargers across China in the coming months to meet growing demand.

The introduction of V4 Superchargers strengthens China’s electric vehicle infrastructure, offering faster charging and broader compatibility. By integrating advanced technology and expanding access, Tesla supports the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, contributing to sustainable transportation nationwide.
