Ocean Winds to Use Polish Terminal as Installation Hub for BC-Wind Turbines

29 Jun 2025  by offshorewind
Ocean Winds, a renewable energy developer, has signed a reservation agreement to utilize the T5 terminal at the Port of Gdańsk, Poland, for its 390 MW BC-Wind offshore wind project. The agreement, finalized in 2025, designates the T5 terminal as the base for turbine installation activities scheduled for 2028. This marks the second Polish port, following Świnoujście Port, to support the construction of the BC-Wind project.

Kacper Kostrzewa, OW Ocean Winds Poland Project Director, stated: “We actively support the development of the local supply chain – for us, it is not only an element of our strategy, but also a fundamental responsibility towards the market in which we invest.” The agreement reflects Ocean Winds’ commitment to fostering local industry participation while advancing renewable energy in Poland.

In 2024, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted-owned Baltica 2, along with Baltica Hub-owned Istrana, secured a lease for port space to develop the T5 terminal. This facility will support the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm by enabling storage, pre-assembly, and offshore installation of 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW-222 turbines, with commissioning planned for 2027. The shared use of the T5 terminal underscores its role as a key hub for Poland’s offshore wind sector.

The BC-Wind project strengthens Poland’s renewable energy infrastructure, contributing to the country’s clean energy goals. By leveraging the Port of Gdańsk, Ocean Winds ensures efficient logistics and installation processes, supporting timely project delivery. The initiative also promotes local economic growth by engaging Polish ports and supply chains in the offshore wind industry.

The collaboration at the T5 terminal highlights the growing importance of offshore wind in Poland’s energy transition. With projects like BC-Wind and Baltica 2, the region is advancing sustainable energy solutions, reducing reliance on non-renewable sources, and fostering economic development through strategic partnerships and local involvement.
