On June 23, 2025, Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) commissioned a 5 MW Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant in Kutch, Gujarat, India’s first off-grid facility of its kind. Powered entirely by solar energy and equipped with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), it operates independently, pioneering decentralized renewable hydrogen production.

Adani commissioned India's first solar-powered off-grid green hydrogen plant in Kutch.

ANIL stated: “The ANIL pilot plant is India’s first off-grid 5 MW green hydrogen facility featuring a fully automated, closed-loop electrolyser system designed to respond dynamically to real-time renewable energy inputs. This provides valuable operational flexibility, particularly in addressing the variability of solar power, while ensuring efficiency, safety and performance.”

The plant underscores the Adani Group’s focus on sustainable innovation, reinforcing its role in the green hydrogen economy. It supports India’s goal to lead globally in green hydrogen production, offering solutions for decarbonizing sectors like fertilizers, refining, and heavy transport.

The Kutch pilot paves the way for ANIL’s Green Hydrogen Hub in Mundra, Gujarat, a key step toward a low-carbon future. Green hydrogen is vital for reducing emissions in hard-to-abate industries and meeting global net-zero goals.

Aligned with the 2023 National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), backed by $2.4 billion, the project promotes energy self-sufficiency and industry decarbonization. The NGHM aims to position India as a green hydrogen exporter by 2030, supporting energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
