Gabon, with over 85% of its land covered by forests, is implementing its "Green Economy Transformation Plan" to promote sustainable development. The country’s environmental direction aligns closely with BYD’s global vision of reducing global temperatures by 1°C through clean energy solutions.
Marc Hirschfeld, CEO of CFAO Mobility, highlighted the strategic value of BYD’s presence in Gabon: “BYD's entry into Gabon is strategically significant. The country's environmental policies align closely with BYD's mission to 'Cool the Earth by 1°C.' Leveraging our distribution network across Africa, we aim to honor our commitment to 'Rooted in Africa, Serving Africa' by replicating the Gabon model across West Africa.”
Yao Shu, Director of Automobile Sales for BYD Africa, described the launch as an important milestone: “Gabon's vision for electrification aligns perfectly with BYD's. Drivers in Gabon will now be able to enjoy world-leading new energy vehicle technologies and a low-carbon, high-quality mobility experience.”
At the launch, BYD introduced two of its leading electric vehicle models: the Yuan PLUS, also known internationally as the BYD ATTO 3, and the Dolphin. The Yuan PLUS, recognized globally as BYD’s first export-focused passenger car, is equipped with aerodynamic styling, smooth lines, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds. This model aims to deliver improved efficiency and comfort for Gabon’s urban drivers.
The Dolphin, another compact electric vehicle, complements BYD’s goal of offering environmentally friendly and affordable transportation options. Together, these models reflect BYD’s approach to combining innovation with practicality in meeting local transport needs.
Currently, BYD has expanded its footprint to 17 countries and regions across Africa. The company is actively supporting clean energy initiatives on the continent through vehicle deployment and strategic partnerships. By working closely with regional distributors and governments, BYD plans to introduce more models suited to local demands while advancing the continent’s transition to sustainable mobility.
Moving forward, BYD aims to broaden its market presence in Africa. The company will continue to collaborate with local stakeholders to promote electric vehicle adoption, deliver high-quality service, and contribute to Africa’s long-term environmental and economic goals.
