Origis Energy will serve as the developer, owner and operator of the projects.
The financing package will fund the 150 MWac Wheatland Solar Project located in Knox County, Indiana. Scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026, this project is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with CenterPoint Energy. Origis will act as the developer, owner, and operator of the facility.
Origis Energy CEO Vikas Anand stated: “Origis Energy is excited to have achieved this financing milestone on Wheatland Solar with MUFG and other financing partners. We continue to see unprecedented growth in demand for electricity and look forward to completing this project for CenterPoint and its customers.”
The financing also supports the Optimist Solar + Storage Project in Clay County, Mississippi. This facility will provide 200 MWac of solar generation and 50 MW/4-hour battery storage capacity. The Optimist project is expected to become operational by early 2026 and is supported by a PPA with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Financing for Optimist was finalized in late 2024.
Optimist is part of a growing Origis portfolio in Mississippi, which also includes the Golden Triangle I and II projects and Hope Solar. Collectively, the Origis Mississippi complex for TVA will provide 750 MW of solar power and 550 MW of energy storage, enhancing energy availability for industrial and retail customers in the region.
MUFG served as coordinating lead arranger, green loan coordinator, and administrative agent for this financing transaction. The lending syndicate included Associated Bank, CoBank, National Bank of Canada, and NatWest as joint lead arrangers, with Amalgamated Bank and Siemens Financial Services also participating as lenders.
Patrick Klein, Managing Director of MUFG’s Project Finance Americas team, said: “Supporting our clients’ development projects and business goals is one of the tenets of our bank. We relish the opportunity to be a part of the Optimist and Wheatland projects that will provide clean and affordable power while creating jobs and economic opportunities in the region.”
Legal counsel for the Wheatland transaction included Latham & Watkins representing Origis Energy, with Taft Stettinius serving as local counsel. MUFG was advised by Milbank and supported locally by Dentons.
In a separate development earlier in January 2025, Origis secured $415 million in financing for the Swift Air Solar Project in Ector County, Texas, further expanding its national clean energy footprint.
