Axpo Signs Solar PPA with McDonald’s Spain to Supply 83 GWh Annually

27 Mar 2026  by Axpo

Axpo has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with McDonald’s franchises in Spain to supply renewable electricity from a newly developed solar power complex in the province of León.

The solar installation, located across the municipalities of Villadangos del Páramo and Cimanes del Tejar, has a total installed capacity of 200 MWp. The complex consists of four photovoltaic plants, each generating 50 MWp, forming a significant addition to Spain’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The agreement, facilitated in collaboration with ZConsultores Energéticos, will enable participating McDonald’s restaurants to be powered by photovoltaic energy. Under the PPA, McDonald’s is expected to secure approximately 83 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of solar energy annually, supporting its efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its Spanish operations.

Axpo Iberia, established in 2001, provides a range of energy solutions including electricity, gas, solar energy, biomass, and biomethane, along with market representation and energy efficiency services for businesses across Spain.
