TP Solar Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), has achieved a milestone by exceeding 4 GW of solar module production at its manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India. As of May 31, 2025, the plant has produced 4,049 MW of solar modules and 1,441 MW of solar cells, reinforcing its role in advancing India’s renewable energy sector.

The company aims to significantly increase its output in fiscal year 2026, targeting 3.7 GW of solar cell production and 3.725 GW of solar module production. The Tamil Nadu facility, designed to meet domestic content requirement (DCR) standards, manufactures photovoltaic modules using in-house produced cells. It employs advanced technologies, including mono passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) and tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) modules, supported by automated, AI-driven systems for enhanced efficiency.

The plant supplies solar panels for Tata Power’s diverse projects, including large-scale solar farms, hybrid energy parks, and distributed rooftop systems. Additionally, it serves third-party installations across India, contributing to the growth of clean energy infrastructure. The facility is on track to reach its full rated capacity of 4.3 GW in fiscal 2026, further strengthening its production capabilities.

Notably, over 80% of the plant’s shop floor workforce consists of women, reflecting a commitment to inclusive employment. The facility adheres to sustainable practices, incorporating green building principles, energy-efficient processes, and resource-conscious design to minimize its environmental impact. These efforts align with broader goals to promote environmentally responsible manufacturing.

Deepesh Nanda, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., stated: “Surpassing 4 GW of solar module production is a testament to our dedication to scaling renewable energy solutions. This milestone underscores our commitment to driving India’s clean energy transition through advanced manufacturing and sustainable practices.”

In addition to the Tamil Nadu plant, TPREL operates a 682 MW solar module and 530 MW photovoltaic cell facility in Bengaluru, which operates at full capacity to support DCR-compliant cell and module production. Together, these facilities enhance Tata Power’s ability to meet growing demand for renewable energy components, both for its own projects and for external clients.

The Tamil Nadu plant’s achievements highlight TP Solar’s pivotal role in expanding India’s solar energy capacity. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices, the company continues to support the nation’s renewable energy goals while fostering economic opportunities through its inclusive workforce and environmentally conscious operations.
