Shanghai Jinghan Signs for Chemical Tanker Newbuilds

23 May 2025  by splash247
Shanghai Jinghan Shipping, a company managing eight chemical tankers, has announced plans to expand its fleet by ordering up to two new chemical tankers from Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding, part of the Yangfan Group, in China. The agreement includes a firm order for one 7,300 dwt duplex stainless steel tanker and an option for a second identical vessel. Specific delivery timelines for the newbuilds have not been disclosed.

The shipyard, located in Zhoushan, recently secured a separate contract for a 13,000 dwt stainless steel tanker from Italy’s Marnavi, indicating its growing role in specialized vessel construction. Shanghai Jinghan, established in 2026, focuses on transporting oil and chemicals across international routes, the Taiwan Strait, and domestic markets. The company is primarily owned by Dalian Jinghan Technology Development, which holds a 50.5% stake, with the remaining shares owned by Dalian Port Investment and Financing Holding.

This fleet expansion supports Shanghai Jinghan’s efforts to meet rising demand for chemical and oil transport while enhancing its operational capacity. The use of duplex stainless steel in the tankers ensures durability and suitability for handling a range of chemical cargoes, aligning with industry standards for safety and efficiency.

By partnering with a domestic shipyard, Shanghai Jinghan strengthens its commitment to local manufacturing and economic development while positioning itself to serve both regional and global markets effectively. The optional second vessel provides flexibility to scale operations based on future market needs.
