Wedoany.com Report-May 23, Enea Group has secured a 9.13 billion zloty ($2.4 billion) loan from Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) to enhance its power infrastructure in Poland. The funding, drawn from the National Resilience and Recovery Plan, will support the development and modernization of distribution networks using smart grid technology.

This initiative will span almost the entire area in which Enea Operator, a distribution entity within Enea Group, operates.

The loan will enable Enea Operator, a key distribution entity within Enea Group, to connect energy consumers and sources to an advanced smart grid. It will also facilitate the expansion of communication systems and information and communications technology (ICT) solutions to improve network efficiency. Enea president Grzegorz Kinelski stated: “Signing the agreement with BGK is one of the key steps in the transformation of our distribution network. Thanks to these funds, we are accelerating the modernisation of infrastructure, which will translate into the country’s energy security, more effective connection of renewable energy sources and active participation of energy recipients in the market. We are implementing our goals defined in the Enea Group development strategy until 2035 and supporting the country’s energy transformation.”

The initiative will cover nearly all regions where Enea Operator functions, with funds disbursed from 2025 to 2036. The loan’s principal repayment is scheduled between 2034 and 2050, with an interest rate of 0.5% per annum. Enea Group plans to invest 41 billion zlotys in its distribution segment by 2035, aiming to strengthen Poland’s energy system resilience and promote renewable energy source integration.

The Energy Support Fund (EFF), managed by BGK under the National Reconstruction Plan, plays a vital role in advancing Poland’s energy transition. With 90 billion zlotys available, including for offshore wind energy, the EFF provides preferential loans for strategic energy projects. BGK president Mirosław Czekaj remarked: “Thanks to EU funds from the National Reconstruction Plan, we have 90 billion zlotys at our disposal for this purpose, including offshore wind energy. Today’s agreement is another step closer to full use of funds from this pool. Modernisation of power grids will be a driving force for further investments by entrepreneurs in renewable energy sources, including photovoltaics and energy storage. The entire economy will benefit from increased energy security.”

Additionally, Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) has announced a program with over 4 billion zlotys to co-finance electricity storage facilities. This initiative aims to enhance the stability of the national power system and optimize renewable energy utilization, supporting Poland’s sustainable energy goals.
