Geoquip Completes 4GW Offshore Wind Site Probe

Geoquip Marine has completed a preliminary geotechnical site investigation for two 4GW offshore wind projects in the German North Sea. The investigation provides essential data to support the developer in advancing the design phase for both project sites, contributing to Germany’s renewable energy goals.

The contract involved drilling 28 boreholes across the sites to assess the subsea terrain for turbine foundations. Geoquip conducted soil sampling and seismic site monitoring at water depths of 40 meters to inform engineering parameters. The company deployed its Dina Polaris vessel, equipped with advanced geotechnical drilling, sampling, and testing tools, as well as an offshore laboratory. This setup enabled real-time, accurate seabed data collection, ensuring safe and efficient identification of challenging site conditions.

The developer, whose identity was not disclosed, recognized Geoquip’s efforts with a safety award for its work on the projects. These initiatives align with Germany’s target of achieving at least 30GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. The projects are expected to support low-carbon energy production, including hydrogen and biofuels, contributing to broader industrial decarbonization efforts in Germany.

Fatih Topal, project manager at Geoquip Marine, commented on the achievement: “Receiving this safety award is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable data with safety at the heart of everything we do. It reflects the precision and transparency we bring to every stage of our work, especially as we identify and mitigate complex site and seabed conditions to support the safe development of critical wind projects.” He emphasized that safety and reliability are core to Geoquip’s approach, setting a standard for the industry.
