Smulders Nets Baltica 2 Contract

24 May 2025  by renews
Smulders, a steel manufacturing company, has secured a contract from PGE and Orsted to produce suspended internal platform cages for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland’s Baltic Sea. The 1.5GW project is a significant step in advancing the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The suspended internal platforms are essential components of the wind farm’s foundation structures, providing access for operational teams to perform maintenance and technical interventions on wind turbines and switchgear. Jaap Jansen, Tender Director at Smulders, stated: “The Baltica 2 project marks another important milestone in our long-term commitment to the offshore wind ambitions in Poland, a country in which Smulders has been operating own production facilities for over two decades.”

Smulders will fabricate the steel cages at its facility in Żary, Poland, and assemble them at the new offshore wind terminal in Świnoujście. Jansen added: “With Smulders actively contributing to all three Polish offshore wind farms currently under construction, we are proud to play a central role in shaping the country’s renewable energy future.”

The Baltica 2 wind farm will consist of 107 turbines, delivering a total capacity of 1.5GW. Offshore construction has already started, with seabed preparation for foundation installation and subsea cabling set to begin soon. The project aligns with Poland’s efforts to expand clean energy production and reduce reliance on non-renewable sources.

Smulders’ involvement in Baltica 2, alongside its contributions to other Polish offshore wind projects, underscores its expertise and commitment to supporting sustainable energy development in the region through advanced manufacturing and collaboration with key industry partners.
