Seatools to Deliver Subsea Metrology and Control System for Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm

14 May 2025  by offshore energy
Netherlands-based Seatools has secured a contract with CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) to provide a metrology and control system for the pre-piling template (PPT) at the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind project in Taiwan. The system ensures precise pile positioning for jacket-type foundations, enabling accurate installation of wind turbine structures.

Jan Frumau, Managing Director of Seatools, stated: “We are proud that CDWE has entrusted Seatools with this critical project following our earlier collaborations on Hai Long and Zhong Neng. This repeat business reflects the trust we’ve built through consistent delivery, technical excellence and our ability to adapt to each project’s unique challenges.” The solution integrates proven Seatools technologies with new components, including advanced simulation models to streamline installation and reduce offshore commissioning time.

Frumau added: “With our proven technology and experience, we aim to deliver robust, high-performing equipment that enables CDWE to execute the piling campaign efficiently and without interruption.” Engineering work has begun, with Seatools collaborating closely with CDWE to meet project requirements.

Located 35 kilometers off Taichung’s coast, the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind project, developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), will feature 33 wind turbines, each with a 15 MW capacity. In January 2025, CIP awarded contracts to Van Oord and the DEME–CSBC joint venture for installation tasks. Van Oord will use its cable-laying vessel Nexus and a remote-controlled trencher, with operations planned to start in 2027.

Seatools’ involvement builds on its prior work, including the completion of factory acceptance tests in December 2023 for an advanced fall pipe remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for DEME Group. The Fengmiao 1 contract highlights Seatools’ expertise in delivering tailored subsea solutions, supporting the growth of renewable energy infrastructure in Taiwan.

This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to precision and efficiency, advancing sustainable energy development through innovative technology and reliable project execution.
