BYD Enters Romania With Four NEV Models, Plans Over 30 Outlets by 2025

On May 8, BYD, a leading Chinese automaker, officially launched its operations in Romania, introducing four new energy vehicle (NEV) models: SEALION 7, SEAL, SEAL U DM-i, and ATTO 2. This marks a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy.

BYD has collaborated with prominent local dealers Tiriac Auto and DAB Auto to open its first showroom in Bucharest, Romania’s capital. The company plans to expand its presence by establishing over 30 sales outlets by the end of 2025 in key cities such as Ploiesti, Brasov, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Constanta, Pitesti, and Craiova. This network aims to make BYD’s NEVs widely accessible to Romanian consumers.

Since initiating its “passenger car going global” strategy in May 2021, BYD has steadily grown its international presence. The company now operates in several markets, including Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom, offering a range of electric and hybrid vehicles tailored to diverse consumer needs.

Beyond vehicle exports, BYD is investing in overseas manufacturing to support its global growth. The company has established production facilities in countries like Uzbekistan and Thailand. On April 28, BYD held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new passenger vehicle plant in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone. Spanning 120,000 square meters, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 10,000 NEVs and is set to begin operations by the end of 2025, supplying high-quality vehicles to the Cambodian market.

The entry into Romania reflects BYD’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation worldwide. By partnering with local dealers and expanding its sales network, the company aims to meet growing demand for NEVs in Europe. The new showroom in Bucharest serves as a foundation for building brand recognition and delivering innovative, eco-friendly vehicles to Romanian customers.

This expansion aligns with BYD’s broader strategy to strengthen its global supply chain and manufacturing capabilities. The Cambodian plant and other overseas facilities will enhance the company’s ability to produce vehicles closer to key markets, ensuring efficiency and responsiveness to regional demands. As BYD continues to grow, its focus on clean energy vehicles positions it as a key player in the global shift toward sustainable mobility.
