Contract signing for geothermal heating plant construction in Sochaczew, Poland
The first geothermal well, GT-1, was drilled in 2018 on Okrezna Street with a PLN 10 million subsidy. The second well, GT-2, was drilled in 2024 to a depth of 1,620 meters. Testing indicated an outlet temperature of 44.5 °C and a flow rate of 184 m3/hour, showing strong injectivity.
The construction of the geothermal heating plant and drilling of the second well is supported by PLN 62 million (USD 15.63 million) funding from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW) provided to the city of Sochaczew in 2023.
Mayor Daniel Janiak commented on the significance of the project, saying, "This is the largest energy project in the Sochaczew region, part of a huge task with a total value of PLN 76 million gross." MP Maciej Malecki added, "Geothermal energy is a great opportunity for stable, safe, and reasonably priced heat supplies to apartments, and I deeply believe that in the near future, we will also have supplies of good quality water, which after passing through a treatment plant will go to our taps."
Malecki also expressed his support for the project’s leadership, saying, "I am glad that the mayor, the president of PEC, and their associates are leading this project with a steady hand. We are talking about the largest energy investment in the history of Sochaczew."
