The facility, spanning over three hectares, houses 320 batteries and is expected to supply more than 280 GWh of clean energy annually to Chile’s grid. This addition helps address grid capacity limitations in northern Chile, reducing the amount of renewable energy that goes unused. According to Atlas Renewable Energy: “The project can provide almost 2,500 electric buses with 500,000 km of range,” highlighting its potential to support sustainable transportation.
The BESS del Desierto enhances Chile’s ability to store and distribute renewable energy, contributing to the stability and efficiency of the national grid. By mitigating curtailment issues, the project supports the region’s growing renewable energy sector and promotes cleaner energy solutions.
