Sungrow Unveils PowerTitan 3.0 BESS With 684 Ah Cell, Silicon Carbide PCS

Sungrow, a leading Chinese supplier of inverters and battery energy storage systems, has introduced its advanced PowerTitan 3.0 storage platform in Hefei, China, on June 6, 2025. This next-generation system incorporates a 684 Ah battery cell, the first of its kind for mass production, and an all-liquid-cooled silicon carbide power conversion system, enhancing efficiency and reliability for utility-scale applications.

The PowerTitan 3.0 platform is designed for versatility, supporting multiple configurations to meet diverse global project requirements. Its standardized functional modules allow flexible deployment across various scenarios without the need for redesign, simplifying installation and maintenance. This adaptability ensures the system can be tailored to specific energy storage needs efficiently.

Available in three versions—Flex (3.45 MWh), Class (6.9 MWh), and Plus (12.5 MWh)—the platform offers storage durations ranging from two to 12 hours. The Plus version, utilizing the 684 Ah cell, achieves a high power density of over 500 kWh per square meter, making it suitable for projects requiring significant capacity. The system operates reliably in extreme conditions, from -40°C to 55°C and at altitudes up to 5,000 meters, ensuring performance in diverse environments.

The liquid-cooled silicon carbide power conversion system delivers a power capacity of 450 kW per unit, with a maximum efficiency of 99.3% and a system round-trip efficiency of 93.5%. This enables consistent operation even in high-temperature regions, such as the Middle East, enhancing its global applicability. The platform’s intelligent design includes tools like PowerBidder, Sungrow’s electricity market trading system, which optimizes financial performance for operators.

Cao Renxian, Chairman of Sungrow, stated: “The PowerTitan 3.0 represents a significant leap in energy storage technology, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency to support the global transition to clean energy.” The system’s pre-installed, factory-integrated design reduces setup time, with intelligent configuration tools cutting deployment time by 17 days for a 1 GWh project, facilitating rapid implementation.

The PowerTitan 3.0 also features Sungrow’s Stem-Cell Grid-Forming Technology, enabling seamless switching between grid-following and grid-forming modes. This enhances grid stability by responding to disturbances and supporting large-scale grid black-starts, making it a robust solution for modern energy networks. With its launch, Sungrow reinforces its leadership in renewable energy storage, building on its global installation of 740 GW of power electronic converters as of December 2024.
