Aspen Power, a U.S. distributed generation platform, celebrated the completion of 10 solar parks in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, with a combined capacity of 42.5 megawatts (MW), marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Announced on Thursday, these commercial net metering facilities represent the first phase of a multi-stage rollout in the state, aimed at boosting renewable energy production.

The solar parks are projected to generate enough electricity annually to power approximately 8,500 homes, supporting Pennsylvania’s goal of sourcing 18% of its electricity from renewables by the end of 2025. The projects address the rising demand for electricity across the state while promoting sustainable energy solutions. Jorge Vargas, CEO of Aspen Power, stated: “At a time when electricity rates are set to increase substantially across the state, we’re proud to offer affordable electricity rates.”

Aspen Power has developed or acquired over 600 renewable energy projects across 26 states, showcasing its expertise in distributed generation. In the previous summer, the company commissioned six solar projects in Pennsylvania, totaling 25.5 MW, originally developed by Sunrise Energy. These efforts highlight Aspen Power’s commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure in the region.

The Mercer County solar parks contribute to Pennsylvania’s renewable energy targets by providing reliable, locally generated power. The net metering structure allows businesses and communities to benefit from cost-effective electricity, offsetting rising utility rates. A company spokesperson noted: “The commercial net metering plants in Mercer County were built as the first part of a multi-phase rollout in the Commonwealth.”

By integrating these solar facilities into Pennsylvania’s energy mix, Aspen Power supports the state’s transition to a cleaner grid. The projects align with broader efforts to enhance energy resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, benefiting both the environment and local economies. The anticipated output of the solar parks will play a key role in meeting the energy needs of households and businesses in Mercer County and beyond.

Aspen Power’s ongoing investments in Pennsylvania reflect its strategy to scale renewable energy solutions nationwide. The completion of the 10 solar parks marks a significant step in the company’s multi-phase plan, with future phases expected to further expand the state’s renewable energy capacity. These initiatives position Aspen Power as a leader in distributed solar generation, driving innovation and sustainability across the U.S.
