Manzhouli Land Port Leads China-Europe Railway Lines in Freight Volume

25 Apr 2025  by global.chinadaily
Manzhouli, the largest land port on the China-Russia border located in Inner Mongolia, processed 678 China-Europe freight trains in the first quarter of this year, according to China Railway Harbin Group. This represents a 7.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The trains carried 70,750 standard shipping containers, a 5.3 percent rise year-on-year, setting a record for the highest freight volume among China-Europe railway routes nationwide during this period.

Containers are stored at a railway container freight center in Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

These freight trains transport a variety of goods, including daily necessities, general merchandise, mechanical equipment, metals, agricultural products, and timber. The rail network connects more than 60 cities in China and Europe, facilitating efficient trade and logistics between the regions.

Yang Liang, a crane operator at Manzhouli Port, said: “To address the large volume of freight trains, we have actively taken measures, such as fully utilizing the intelligent container management system. Via computer screens in the crane operator's cab, we can see the information and location of the containers, saving more than 10 minutes compared to manual searching.” This technology enhances operational efficiency, streamlining container handling at the port.

To ensure smooth operations, Manzhouli Port has collaborated with customs and local authorities to refine transportation and customs clearance processes. These improvements support the timely delivery of goods, accommodating the growing volume of freight traffic. Additionally, China Railway Harbin Group has implemented online services through the e-commerce platform 95306.cn and tailored transportation plans to meet the needs of various businesses.

The increased freight activity at Manzhouli underscores its role as a vital hub for international trade, connecting markets in China and Europe. The port’s adoption of advanced systems and optimized procedures reflects a commitment to supporting efficient and reliable logistics.
