Enel Green Power, an Italian renewable energy company, has reported over 60,000 visits to geothermal sites in Tuscany, highlighting the rising popularity of geothermal tourism in Italy. The unique blend of sustainable energy and cultural exploration has attracted thousands to the region’s geothermal attractions.

Key statistics from Enel Green Power include approximately 30,000 annual visits to the Larderello Geothermal Museum, showcasing the history and technology of geothermal energy. The Biancane Park and MUBIA Museum in Monterotondo Marittimo welcomed over 16,000 visitors, while the Fumarole Park in Sasso Pisano, located in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, saw around 6,000 visitors. Additionally, about 1,500 guided tours explored the Valle Secolo power plant, and roughly 6,500 people visited the tourist trail at the Bagnore 3 and Bagnore 4 plants in Amiata. Several thousand attendees also participated in an event celebrating the 120th anniversary of geothermal power, organized by Enel Green Power.

The growth of geothermal tourism stems from collaboration between Enel Green Power, local institutions, businesses, and tourism associations. These partnerships have enriched the visitor experience, combining educational insights into renewable energy with Tuscany’s natural and cultural heritage. The initiatives have made geothermal sites accessible and engaging, drawing both domestic and international tourists.

A significant moment this year was the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Italy. Addressing the Italian Parliament, King Charles III commended Italy’s contributions to sustainable energy: “It is deeply encouraging to see our two countries working together to combat the loss of biodiversity and reduce emissions. I can only applaud Italian entrepreneurs for their pioneering successes, from the first geothermal power plant in the world to the first installation of smart meters at a national level.” His remarks underscored Italy’s leadership in geothermal innovation and its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The surge in geothermal tourism reflects growing interest in sustainable energy solutions and their integration with local economies. Enel Green Power’s efforts have positioned Tuscany as a hub for renewable energy education and tourism, fostering greater awareness of geothermal technology’s benefits. The company continues to work with local stakeholders to enhance these experiences, ensuring that visitors gain a deeper understanding of clean energy while enjoying the region’s scenic beauty.
