New York Adds $30 Million More to Its EV Rebate Pot

New York State has allocated an additional $30 million to support point-of-sale rebates for purchasing or leasing over 60 new electric vehicle (EV) models. This initiative, part of the Drive Clean Rebate program managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), provides discounts at participating dealerships across all 62 counties in the state.

The rebates vary based on the EV’s range: vehicles with a range exceeding 200 miles qualify for a $2,000 rebate, while those with a range of 40 to 199 miles receive $1,000. Since its launch in 2017, the program has distributed over 190,000 rebates, contributing to more than 280,000 EVs on New York’s roads.

“Converting to EVs reduces the total cost of vehicle ownership through lower fuel and vehicle maintenance costs, and NYSERDA is proud to help provide New Yorkers with more purchasing power through these rebates,” said Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of NYSERDA.

In addition to the rebate program, New York has enhanced its EV charging infrastructure incentives through the Charge Ready NY 2.0 program. Funding for Level 2 charger installations at apartment buildings, workplaces, and hotels has increased from $2,000 to $3,000 per port. In disadvantaged communities, this amount rises to $4,000 per port, encouraging equitable access to charging facilities.

New York boasts over 17,000 public EV chargers, ranking second in the U.S. behind California. Additionally, more than 4,000 semi-public charging stations are available at workplaces and multifamily buildings statewide, further supporting EV adoption.

For those exploring clean energy options beyond EVs, EnergySage offers a free service to connect consumers with trusted solar installers. “EnergySage is a free service that makes it easy for you to go solar – whether you’re a homeowner or renter. They have hundreds of pre-vetted solar installers competing for your business, ensuring you get high quality solutions and save 20 to 30% compared to going it alone,” an EnergySage representative stated. The platform provides personalized solar quotes online and access to unbiased advisors, streamlining the process without unsolicited sales calls until a user selects an installer.

These initiatives reflect New York’s commitment to sustainable transportation and clean energy, making EVs and charging infrastructure more accessible while supporting broader environmental goals.
