Indonesia’s state-owned geothermal developer and operator PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) has received a €825,000 grant from German investment and development bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau Bankengruppe (KfW). The grant will go towards Temperature Core Hole (TCH) drilling of 2 wells in the Candi Umbul Telemoyo / Umbul Telemoyo Temple Geothermal Working Area (WKP) in Central Java, Indonesia.

The Candi Umbul Telemoyo WKP was awarded to PT Geo Dipa in 2017 via direct award by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The geothermal site has a potential capacity of 45 MW. TCH drilling at the geothermal prospect site will provide valuable subsurface geologic and temperature data, which can then be used as a parameter for further geothermal exploration and resource assessment work.

The signing of the Grant Agreement was done by Yudistian Yunis, Main Director of PT Geo Dipa, and Frank Bohnet, Regional Director of East Asia – Southeast Asia KfW. The agreement strengthens the good cooperative relationship between KfW and PT Geo Dipa in an effort support green projects in Indonesia. Bohnet also stated that the grant is proof of KfW’s commitment to supporting the energy transition of Indonesia.

PT Geo Dipa currently continues to work on the expansion of the Dieng and Patuha geothermal fields, as well as exploration in greenfield areas such as the Arjuno Welirang WKP in East Java.
