Offshore Wind Farm in Fujian Starts Generating Electricity

20 Jul 2023  by evwind

The world’s first 16-megawatt offshore wind turbines have begun generating electricity by connecting to the grid at the Fujian Offshore Wind Power Plant. This marked the global prominence of China’s competition in developing and manufacturing large-capacity offshore wind turbines.

The aforementioned 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine can generate more than 66 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and can meet the annual electricity needs of 36 thousand 3-person families.

Today, 60 percent of the wind power generation equipment in the global market comes from China. By the end of 2022, the global installed capacity of offshore wind power reached 57.6 gigawatts. The share of China’s installed power capacity in the world market increased to 53 percent, reaching 30.51 gigawatts.
