Denmark-headquartered Cadeler has signed a firm contract with Baltic Power for the installation of 76 Vestas 15 MW offshore wind turbines in the Polish Baltic Sea worth between EUR 68 – 85 million.

The project is scheduled to begin in 2024 and marks Cadeler’s entry into a new and expanding market.

The contract is the final confirmation of a reservation agreement from July 2022 by Cadeler and Baltic Power, a joint venture project of PKN Orlen and Northland Power.

Vestas will provide the wind turbines and it will be one of the first times the new V236-15MW model will be used on a commercial scale, said Cadeler.

The wind turbine reached its nominal power rating of 15 MW in April, three months after it was installed at the National Test Center for large wind turbines in Østerild, Denmark.

For the 1.2 GW project, Cadeler will make use of one of the two O-class installation vessels, which will feature a new and upgraded crane with a lifting capacity of 1,600 metric tons at a radius of 40 metres.

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, which will be built approximately 23 kilometres north of the Baltic Sea coastline, in the vicinity of Choczewo and Łeba, is scheduled to enter into construction in 2024 and commercial operations in 2026.

In September 2022, the Baltic Power joint venture also announced preferred suppliers of all key onshore and offshore components of the farm: foundations, wind turbines, substations, and cables.

Once completed, the project will supply more than 1.5 million Polish households with renewable energy annually for over 25 years.
