Indonesia’s state-owned geothermal developer and operator PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) has announced a geothermal electricity production of 197.5 GWh for the first quarter of 2023. This represents a 33% increase from the same period last year, which had an output of 147.5 GWh.

Rio Supriadinata Marza, Director of Operations and HSSE, further provided details on the where the geothermal output came from – 125.5 GWh from the Patuha 1 steam field and 72 GWh from the Dieng 1 steam field. The electricity production of Geo Dipa for the 1st quarter accounts for 17.5% of the company’s annual target of 840 GWh.

Efforts are currently ongoing for the expansion of the installed capacity of the Dieng Geothermal Working Area (WKP). In late 2021, Geo Dipa kicked off the start of a drilling program for 1o new wells. According to Rio, a new 60-MWh tubine generator will be installed at the Dieng WKP with an investment of USD 450 million to 500 million. “Our target is to increase production every year,” added Rio.

PT Geo Dipa has also revealed plans of doing an initial public offering (IPO) at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, similar to what PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy did earlier this year. This is a strategy to obtain public funding and remove dependence on state capital as part of the National Capital Participation (PMN) scheme.
