India Plans to Add Around 20 GW of Nuclear Power Capacity Over the Next Decade

25 Oct 2019

India is seeking to improve its energy supply security and plans to add around 20 GW of nuclear power capacity over the next decade. The country has started to use high capacity reactors to increase standardisation and aims to cut construction costs and accelerate construction time. A nuclear power project is under consideration at Gorakhpur, in Haryana.

India also plans to boost cool production to reach 1 Gt at earliest. To reduce its dependence on imported coal, the government will help Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) and other coal mining companies to clear administrative hurdles (environmental clearance, etc.) to speed up mine development.
