Russia’s Natural Gas Production Fell by More Than 13% In 2022

Russia’s natural gas production fell by more than 13% in 2022, according to preliminary data published by the Russian state statistics service Rosstat. Associated petroleum gas production in 2022 also decreased (-2%). However, LNG production grew by 8% in 2022. Russia’s oil and gas condensate production grew more than 2% in 2022 (crude oil output excluding gas condensate increased by 1.2%). Coal production remained mostly stable (+0.4%) in 2022; hard coal production decreased by 3.6%, while brown coal production rose by nearly 20%.
 
Electricity generation in Russia in 2022 remained relatively stable, amounting to 1,167 TWh (+0.6% compared to 2021), with 737 TWh from thermal sources (+3%), 224 TWh from nuclear (+0.5%), and 200 TWh from hydropower (-8%).
