Toufic Hokkar, president and CEO of Sonatrach Group, and Claudio Descalzi, general manager of Eni, signed two strategic memorandums of intent in Algiers on Monday, which will define future joint projects and carbon neutrality related to energy supply and energy transformation, according to the statement of the conference.

The two agreements were signed under the supervision of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmajid Tebuen, and the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Giorgio Meloni, who has been working and visiting in Algeria since Sunday. An important ministerial delegation said that the first strategic memorandum of intent was aimed at determining the best option to increase Algeria's energy exports to Europe, with the aim of ensuring energy security and the focus on supporting sustainable energy transformation.

The statement said that, The memorandum "will depend on the evaluation of the following four axes: improving the existing natural gas transportation capacity, laying new natural gas pipelines to alternately transport natural gas, hydrogen and blue-green ammonia, laying marine cables and improving the current natural gas liquefaction capacity. With regard to the second strategic memorandum of intent, the statement stated that it would" identify opportunities to reduce Algeria's greenhouse gas emissions and the best technology to implement such reduction.

The statement stressed that the two new agreements "will strengthen the partnership between Italy and Algeria, and confirm the key role of Sonatrach as one of the major energy suppliers in Europe.
